The Five Levels of Leadership

In his book, The 5 Levels of Leadership: Proven Steps to Maximize Your Potential, John Maxwell, leadership author, shares his powerful five levels of leadership:

Level 1 – Position – Rights (granted by the position) – People follow because they have to.
Level 2 – Permission – Relationships – People follow you because they want to.
Level 3 – Production – Results – People follow you because of what you have done.
Level 4 – People Development – Reproduction – People follow you because what you have done for them.
Level 5 – Pinnacle – Respect – People follow because of who you are and what you represent.

Maxwell’s message is joyfully simple: leadership is about people… inspiring and motivating them to produce extraordinary results as individuals and teams and develop them as great leaders. About Level 5 leaders, he writes: “The goal of life is not to live forever. The goal is life is to create something that does.” I add to his words these thoughts. Yes, may that ‘something’ be the great successes you have achieved. More importantly, may that ‘something’ also include your magnificent legacy of a world and people that you made so much richer by your love, caring, selfless-giving and a life well-lived.

Live your life always at the Pinnacle of Leadership being more than you ever dreamed you could be… and more… so much more.
