On the Law of Navigation

In his book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, John Maxwell writes of the Law of Navigation. The law states that “Anyone can steer a ship but it takes a leader to chart the course, carefully, seeing where they want to go and charting the most effective course to get there.” The law has deep significance in the personal and professional life of great leaders.

It speaks to the need to set a vision and strategy for your magnificent journey ahead. It is about planning ahead, setting short and long-term goals, establishing priorities, preparing for the avoidable and inevitable and anticipating the intended and unintended consequences of the plan. It is in this intentionality of preparation that successful achievement of their vision is realized.

On your magnificent journey, may you be guided by the words of Elizabeth Kapu’uwailani Lindsey, “True navigation begins in the human heart. It is the most important map of all.” And may you hear the words of Colin Powell echo in your ears, “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning.” Let your laws of navigation take you to places undreamed and accomplishments unimagined. Your best is yet to come, so plan accordingly.

Have a beautiful day and a magnificent week!!!
